ARTIST STATEMENT

As a self-taught photographer, I consider my photographic practice a visual meditation, an intuition formed by color, shape and light. It merges personal abstraction with street and documentary genres, often interpreting unexpected beauty in the vernacular. My portrait practice has a similar intuitive lens, one that is guided by the natural playfulness and spontaneity of childhood moments. Having worked with children in different roles (art teacher, tutor, caretaker, mentor) for 25 years (my best friends and I started our own summer camp on Cape Cod when we were 12!), nothing brings me more joy as a photographer than to capture these little personalities with the camera.
